Conventional vs. Split Heat Pump Water Heaters.
When most people think of heat pump water heaters, they picture an ‘all in one’ unit that looks like a tall water heater but with the heat pump on top. This a conventional heat pump water heater and works great in homes with wide open basements and with a boiler or furnace running in the winter (they need warm air).
If your basement is small, finished, non-existent, or if you want to remove your boiler or furnace someday, then you need a Split Heat Pump Water Heater.

Q: Are the Heat Pump tax credits going away?
Yes. Soon. But if we install before the deadline, the tax credit cannot be ‘taken away’ later. It’s yours.
Q: Why Bradford White AeroTherm instead of another brand?
All of the manufacturers have units with very similar performance numbers. But we go for the manufacturer with the recognized best tank coating technology and longest life. We’re old school plumbers- we think that water heaters should last, not leak.
Q: Why do you cost less? What’s the catch?
Specialization and volume. We have the electricians and plumbers ‘in house’. No subs and no delays. And we buy these by the truckload and keep them in Canton.
Q: I heard that heat pump water heaters cool the basement.
Only if someone puts the wrong heat pump in the wrong place. Split heat pumps, although far less common, don’t cool the space and are an excellent solution in many places. The engineers at MassSave love them- that’s why they double your rebate to $1,500.
